I’m No Pinterest Mom. Valentines Day Edition
I’m No Pinterest Mom.
I mean no offense to Pinterest Moms. I’m just not one.
Have you ever fussed and slaved over a froo froo dessert and you give it to your kids and they just eat it?! You’re like, “WTF!? That was freakin life changing and you are just sittin there eating it? You should be taking pictures and journaling this experience!”
But no. They just eat. They just sit there chewing. Look at them over there… chewing like that..
Then you realize that they react the same to a homemade slaved over desert as they do to a twinkie. So why do we put so much pressure on ourselves?
Holidays like Valentines Day bring out a relatively new kinda mom. The “I’m craftier than you” mom. They scour Pinterest looking for the most nifty of ideas. Something popular but not TOO popular. If it’s too popular there is a greater chance one of the other crafty moms will have already used it. And that would be just awful!
The kids aren’t really impressed with homemade awesomeness in cake form. Now keep in mind I’m making valentines for 2nd and 3rd graders. So maybe they get more refined as they get older. But for the most part, cake is cake and sugar is sugar. Sadly to some of these moms the only reason to go all out like that would be to impress the other moms.
So this year I’m starting a new trend. #MehMoms. We don’t do things badly. We just choose to reserve that energy for something else. The family doesn’t mind so we don’t either. And to celebrate here is a #MehMoms take on making class valentines. It’s very uncomplicated. It involves Little Debbie snake cakes. (Heart shaped of course. Because we are trying.) Cheap valentines day cards and a stapler. The kids will love this just as much as the intricately decorated cookie someone else spent hours on.
So Here’s to the #MehMoms! Damn it, we try!
Now if you’ll excuse me I need to go get the Stouffer’s Family Size Lasagna out of the oven.
