Stop Sharing These Posts On Facebook!
Type Amen And Share If You Aren’t Racist!
We’ve all seen them on Facebook. Pictures of beautiful children with Down Syndrom or Special needs with captions that read, “Everyone says I’m ugly because I have down syndrome. Share if you think I’m Beautiful”. You might see a Picture of a beautiful African American baby with the caption, “Share if you aren’t racist.” Or a cancer patient who has lost their hair due to chemo with a similar caption. I’ve seen so many variations with babies, children dying of cancer, abused animals, adults with disfigurement… the list goes on and on.
The thing is that the people who share these post really have their hearts in the right place, but they seldom follow the picture back to the original poster. The person who originally posted the pictures are what I call “Like Whores”. The profile is full of these types of posts meant to get massive shares, likes, and followers. The above post has 36k likes and 94k shares.
Now that isn’t so bad, right? People post things all the time to get likes and shares! Well, these pictures are stolen. The baby in the example above is someone’s beloved child. Someone stole this picture of this child and made a meme out of it. Exploiting him and his parents all for Likes. How do you think the parents of this baby feel knowing that their child is being used because of his disability so some creeper can get popular on Facebook?
These pictures all have back stories and they NEVER belong to the original poster. These backstories belong to the families and the children who now have to live with this. How would you feel if you were surfing Facebook and all the sudden you see a picture of your child who has cancer on some creeps page with the caption “Share If You Don’t Think I’m Ugly”? Wouldn’t that rip your heart out?
Every time you share these pictures you are helping these creepers rip the heart out of a mother, father, sister, brother. Every time you share these you are helping to exploit these people. Every time you share these you are stealing a little piece of this families love and turning it into sadness.
I’ve also seen pictures saying that “For every share Facebook will donate $1 to save this babies life.” along with a picture of a child in the hospital. Can you imagine? Not only is this a big fat lie, but what if that child has died? Now this meme is even more destructive. Now their families have to see a picture of their now dead child as he lay in the hospital getting shared just so some creeper can get some Facebook Likes.
PLEASE. The Next time you see a picture like these report them. Facebook doesn’t seem to care about it, but if enough people report them maybe they will start.
